A network of young people coming together once a month to discuss issues of safety relevant to them and their communities. The YSW Youth Safety Council informs the work of the organisation. 

Today's classrooms are increasingly affected by conflict, aggression, and trauma experienced by students - leaving many teachers struggling to maintain a safe and effective learning environment. These pressures are contributing to teacher burnout, attrition, and in some cases legal action due to insufficient risk assessment and lack of support from local authorities. 

YSW Teacher Training empowers educators and Senior Leadership Teams with the knowledge and practical skills they need to:

• Assess and manage risk

• De-escalate conflict effectively

• Build a positive, cohesive school culture

YSW offers nationally recognised qualifications designed to equip learners with practical, real-world safety skills. Our accredited courses include:

These qualifications provide essential knowledge and techniques for managing challenging situations safely and confidently - ideal for young people, educators, and professionals working with at-risk groups, as well as individuals wanting to bolster personal development.

Our targeted interventions ar 6-week programmes are designed to support young people who are involved in - or at risk of - anti-social behaviour, risk-taking activities, or community violence.

Developed in collaboration with young people and professionals to ensure sessions are relevant, engaging, and impactful. Interventions aim to challenge dangerous norms, promote positive behaviour and improve school engagement by exploring emotional triggers, decision-making, risk awareness, and the consequences of actions.

The YSW Level Up curriculum is a comprehensive, flexible programme designed to equip children and young people with the knowledge and skills they need to stay safe—at school, at home, and at play.

Tailored to specific age groups the curriculum covers key safety topics including:

• Fire & water safety

• Road and passenger safety (including e-bikes & surrons).

• Online safety

• Managing emotions & anger

• Healthy relationships & exploitation

• Anti-social behaviour

Level Up can be delivered as a full 12-week programme or as standalone modules, making it easy to tailor to your needs. 

Our Train the Teacher initiative provides educators with the tools and training to confidently deliver modules at their own pace, integrating essential safety education directly into classroom learning.

Schools that take a whole-school approach to safety - by delivering YSW safety education, appointing dedicated Safety Champions and fostering a culture of care and responsibility are eligible for YSW Safety School Status.
